Enjoying a drink on a patio with your favorite people is about as Austin as it gets, and thanks to our mild weather this time of year, fall is prime patio season.
Whether you are visiting from out of town or a local looking for Austin staycation ideas, our concierge team is happy to fill you in on the best Austin patio bars to visit! Here are our favorite spots in the neighborhood and beyond.
1. Lolo Wine: Best Austin Patio Bar For a Great Glass of Wine
Lolo is Austin’s first natural wine bar and bottle shop with patio hours every afternoon into evening. This casual, unpretentious spot is a great place to learn about natural wines, which are typically made with organic grapes and very little else, resulting in a wine that is more easily digestible and may even be hangover-free!
And if you feel like staying in, this is an ideal option for picking up a bottle of wine to hang on the Heywood Hotel courtyard patio. Lolo’s educated and passionate staff will help you find the perfect bottle!
2. Kitty Cohen’s: Best Austin Patio Bar That Feels Like You’re on Vacation
Want to spend happy hour by the pool? Just a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk from the Heywood Hotel, Kitty Cohen’s is East Austin’s take on a Palm Springs patio bar, complete with a wading pool! Perfect for an afternoon spritz, classic daiquiri, or frosé in the fresh air.
3. The Cavalier: Best Austin Patio Bar for the Perfect Bloody Mary
Located on the same block as Kitty Cohen’s, check out The Cavalier, a family-owned bar and New Orleans-style kitchen. The Cavalier offers frozen cocktails, mixed beverages, and local beers with spacious indoor and outdoor areas. Don’t miss their brunch — especially if you love chicken biscuits, beignets, and Bloody Marys.
4. High Noon: Best Austin Patio Bar Day or Night
Right down the street from the Heywood Hotel, High Noon is a fun patio bar with retro vibes. Plus, it comes from major players in the Austin bar scene who are also behind White Horse, Kitty Cohen’s and Blackheart, to name just a few.
High Noon serves cocktails and beer and stocks an impressive selection of whiskeys and mezcals. Its interior is stylishly described as “a traditional Western saloon meets Kubrick,” while its outside porches (both front and back) remain Austin chic, with picnic tables, plants, and string lights.
5. Dainty Dillo: Best Patio Bar in Austin With a View
There’s something for everyone at Dainty Dillo: live music, a full bar and kitchen, a total of 13 televisions, and incredible views. From the same team as South Austin’s Armadillo Den, Dainty Dillo’s spacious outdoor patio overlooks the Colorado River. It’s a great hang-out spot for happy hour, weekend brunch, and even watch parties for everything from football to The Bachelorette.
6. Chalmers: Best Patio Bar in East Austin For Sports
Chalmers is the newest kid on our block, but it has some serious cred. From the team behind Armadillo Den and Dainty Dillo, Chalmers is a sports bar meets Texas icehouse. There’s a big covered front patio with plenty of misters to keep you cool on a warm day and a spacious backyard patio with even more seating. The bar menu includes frozen drinks, cocktails, and beers. And if you’re feeling snacky, grab a bite from their Southwestern-inspired menu or the Rollin Smoke BBQ food truck out back.
7. Central Machine Works: Best Patio Bar For Beer
Spacious is an understatement when it comes to the outdoor patio at Central Machine Works Brewery and Beer Hall. This industrial-chic microbrewery with a full bar and tasty bites (grab a pizza or try the warm German potato salad!) is located on E. Cesar Chavez, just two miles from the Heywood Hotel. With a casual vibe, spacious interior, and extended patio, it has quickly established itself as a Heywood Hotel guest favorite. Go check out why!
8. Cosmic Saltillo: Best Patio Bar Design
Industrial architecture meets expansive garden patio at Cosmic Hospitality’s East Austin coffee shop, Cosmic Saltillo. A sister spot to the original location in South Austin, Cosmic Saltillo is an all-day spot for coffee, drinks, and tacos in a thoughtfully converted railroad yard.
The impressive outdoor areas feature native landscaping, water gardens and creative steel structures. There is ample seating, both on the patio and on the rooftop deck (which offers views of downtown Austin!). However, indoor tables are limited.
